JAKARTA – PT Pertamina (Persero) has stated that it has established a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) ecosystem and is prepared to enter the global market.

Agung Wicaksono, Director of Business Transformation and Sustainability at Pertamina, made the announcement during a panel at the ISCC Global Sustainability Conference 2026 in Brussels, Belgium.

In a discussion titled “Behind the Blend: The Producers Making Net-Zero Aviation Possible”, Pertamina sat alongside global SAF producers including Montana Renewables, Neste, and EcoCares.

“Our focus is not only on SAF production, but also on building an SAF ecosystem that is credible, measurable, and globally recognised,” said Agung in an official statement on Saturday (28 February 2026).

Agung explained that Pertamina connects the collection of raw materials at the community level with the international aviation market.

Pertamina integrates the collection chain of used cooking oil from households and business operators, processing at refineries, and distribution to airlines. The entire process has obtained International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) certification, which prevents double-counting and ensures sustainability standards and carbon accounting are met.

“(We are) connecting the collection of raw materials at the community level in Indonesia with the international aviation market,” said Agung.

The product has yielded a 2.4 per cent SAF blend mixture and has been tested on an Airbus A320-200 aircraft operated by Pelita Air Services.

“At Pertamina, SAF is not a standalone initiative, but rather a direct implementation of our dual-growth strategy, namely maximising inherited refinery assets whilst building a low-carbon business that can be scaled,” said Agung.

“We have completed technical validation across various aircraft types, including commercial jet aircraft with an Indonesian airline, Pelita Air Services,” he added.
