The brutal and deadly attack by Israel and the United States against Iran on Saturday, 28 February, has shocked the world.

PT Pertamina (Persero) is implementing mitigation measures to preserve the stability of the national energy supply amid evolving geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East region, specifically the conflict between the US and Israel against Iran. This is being undertaken by prioritising worker safety and operational continuity as the primary focus through strengthened risk mitigation and intensive monitoring.

Pertamina is ensuring that all business lines—from crude oil supply to domestic fuel and liquefied petroleum gas provision—continue to operate optimally and under controlled conditions.

Pertamina has identified three strategic business units directly engaged with the dynamics in the region. Firstly, PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Non Captive, related to global energy transportation activities. Secondly, Pertamina International EP (PIEP), which operates upstream operations in Basra, Iraq. Thirdly, Pertamina Patra Niaga, which procures crude oil and products from sources in the Middle East region.

Pertamina continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI), Indonesian Consulates General (KJRI), and local authorities.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at PT Pertamina (Persero) Muhammad Baron stated that all workers, operations, and fleet located in the Middle East region are being monitored intensively.

“Pertamina has also prepared risk mitigation measures and strengthened communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, KBRI, KJRI, and local authorities to ensure operational continuity and crew safety,” Baron stated on Monday, 2 March.

The company is also monitoring developments in global energy dynamics and has undertaken mitigation measures. The objective is to ensure the continuity of the global supply chain and maintain national energy resilience.

As an integrated energy company, Baron said, Pertamina possesses a diversified portfolio of crude oil supply sources, fuel products, and liquefied petroleum gas from both domestic production and various partner countries. This diversification provides flexibility in supply management amid geopolitical dynamics.

Furthermore, Pertamina is optimising the operation of domestic refineries to maintain production and distribution balance. With integrated supply management from upstream to downstream, the company ensures the availability of fuel and liquefied petroleum gas for the population remains in a safe, adequate, and controlled condition.

“As the frontline of national energy security, Pertamina is strengthening oversight and endeavouring to maintain the security of crude oil, fuel, and liquefied petroleum gas supplies to meet the needs of all Indonesians,” Baron concluded.

Head of Apindo Shinta Widjaja Kamdani stated that the risk of a US attack on Iran does not stem solely from market sentiment but also from the potential disruption of global energy and trade routes.

Due to the conflict between Iran, Israel, and America, several airlines serving flights to the Middle East have cancelled a number of their flights.

Constitutional law expert Radian Syam assessed that the conflict situation between Israel, the US, and Iran tests whether the world still stands on the supremacy of law or is shifting towards the dominance of force.

US President Donald Trump emphasised full control over military options against Iran and denied rumours of rejection from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General CQ Brown.
