PT Pertamina Patra Niaga is strengthening the reliability of Indonesia’s national energy distribution through the optimisation of a Smartship technology-based fleet monitoring system. A total of 70 vessels have been integrated into the system, enabling real-time operational monitoring of ships from shore-based monitoring centres.

Arif Yunianto, Director of Pertamina Patra Niaga’s Fleet Logistics, stated that this digitalisation initiative forms part of efforts to improve operational efficiency whilst ensuring smooth energy distribution across all regions of Indonesia.

“Through the integrated monitoring system, we can track vessel movements, operational conditions, and external factors such as weather in real-time,” Arif explained.

The Smartship system is an Internet of Things (IoT)-based technology installed on vessels to continuously transmit operational data to control centres. Through this technology, the company can monitor various parameters, from vessel position and navigation routes to weather conditions and operational indicators such as vessel speed that affects efficiency.

Of the total integrated vessels, 22 ships have been equipped with advanced monitoring systems capable of tracking data more comprehensively, including navigation, engine performance, and cargo and bunker activities.

Moving forward, the number of vessels with this advanced technology will continue to increase. Beyond enhancing operational visibility, data from the monitoring system is also utilised to support preventive maintenance, allowing potential disruptions to be detected earlier.

Additionally, the vessel fleet also employs the ShipManager platform from DNV, which supports operational management through various modules including technical maintenance, safety (HSSE), procurement, and crew management.

The integration of digital technology, vessel sensors, and cloud-based systems enables all fleet activities to be monitored through a comprehensive dashboard.

In supporting energy distribution during the Ramadan and Eid 2026 period, these vessels form part of 345 fleet units deployed to ensure safe and timely distribution of petroleum and liquefied petroleum gas throughout Indonesia.

PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has confirmed that two of its four vessels have successfully departed the Middle East region. The two tanker ships owned by PT Pertamina International Shipping have moved away from the Strait of Hormuz area amid escalating Middle East conflicts.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran is undertaking diplomatic steps with the Iranian government to assist Pertamina’s tanker vessels. The Indonesian Foreign Ministry is intensifying dialogue with Iranian authorities to ensure the safety of two Pertamina tanker vessels detained in the Strait of Hormuz.

The government is pursuing a negotiation approach to secure the release of two tanker vessels belonging to Pertamina International Shipping that remain in the Strait of Hormuz area.

Amidst growing complexity in Indonesia’s energy distribution, strengthening fleet standards has become a strategic necessity inseparable from energy supply sustainability.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia reported that progress on electricity recovery and energy distribution in disaster-affected regions of Sumatra is proceeding in phases. Flooding conditions have caused certain access routes to be disrupted, necessitating adjustments to distribution patterns.

Road Traffic Control (RTC) and Remote Asset Daily Activity Recorder (RADAR) facilities are important for delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable energy distribution operations. Two new operational points have been added, specifically at Integrated Terminal Panjang in Lampung Province and Fuel Terminal Tanjung Pandan in the Bangka Belitung Islands.
