Pertamina operates two sister ships, Pertamina Gas 1 (PG1) and Pertamina Gas 2 (PG2), to ensure the continuous supply of LPG across Indonesia. Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Roberth M.V. Dumatubun, stated that these ships are vital for maintaining LPG distribution throughout the Indonesian archipelago.

“PG1 and PG2 have a strategic role in ensuring that LPG supplies continue to reach communities in various regions of Indonesia,” Roberth said in a statement on Friday, May 15, 2026.

He explained that PG1 and PG2 are sister ships with identical specifications, designed to transport Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in large quantities safely and efficiently.

Both ships have a carrying capacity of approximately 80,000 metric tons of LPG per ship, with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of around 50,000 tons and an overall length (LOA) of approximately 225 meters.

In a single voyage, PG1 and PG2 can collectively transport around 80,000 metric tons of LPG, which is a significant volume in maintaining the energy supply for the community, especially in the Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara regions, which have high LPG consumption rates.

“Behind the daily distribution of LPG, there is a fleet operation that works to maintain national energy continuity,” said Roberth.

As an archipelago with more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia’s energy distribution relies heavily on sea transportation. In this case, PG1 and PG2 serve as the main link in the LPG distribution chain, from terminals to various distribution points in various regions of Indonesia.

In addition to their large carrying capacity, both ships also operate year-round with high safety standards. This is important considering that LPG is a high-risk cargo that requires strict management and supervision during the transportation process.

“We ensure that LPG distribution runs safely, on time, and reaches all areas. This is part of a continuous effort to maintain national energy resilience,” he said.

Through the operation of PG1 and PG2, Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to ensure that LPG distribution can run safely, reliably, and sustainably, while maintaining energy connectivity for millions of Indonesians from the sea to various destination areas. (Ant).
