Pertamina NRE Advocates Clean Energy Collaboration Commitment for ASEAN at Philippines Investment Forum
Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) is committed to driving clean energy investment and regional ASEAN collaboration. This commitment was conveyed by Pertamina NRE CEO John Anis, speaking in a panel discussion on “Future of Investments Within Our Borders” at the ASEAN Editors and Economic Opinion Leaders Forum 2026 in the Philippines.
The strategic forum, organised by the ASEAN Committee on Business and Investment Promotion (CBIP) together with the Philippine Department of Industry and Trade, was attended by President of the Republic of the Philippines Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, and corporate leaders and global investors.
John Anis emphasised that for the new renewable energy (NRE) industry, political stability and regulatory certainty are fundamental foundations in making investment decisions.
“Clean energy investment is long-term in nature, requiring substantial capital expenditure and lengthy payback periods. Therefore, beyond financial viability, geopolitical stability, policy consistency, legal certainty, transparent governance, and policy consistency are extremely determining factors,” said John Anis.
He added that ASEAN possesses strong economic growth prospects and ambitious targets for increasing renewable energy mix by 2050. This positions the region as a strategic destination for energy transition investment, particularly if ASEAN can harmonise regulations across member states to create an increasingly integrated and competitive business environment.
As part of the Pertamina Group, Pertamina NRE applies a disciplined and measured investment approach. Project evaluation is conducted by considering returns that have accounted for risk, including country risk premiums and sectoral risks, as well as through stress testing of various geopolitical and macroeconomic scenarios.
Additionally, regarding investments outside Indonesia, Pertamina NRE also always considers the interests and benefits of such investments for Indonesia, including their contribution to strengthening national energy security, knowledge transfer, and value creation for the domestic economy.
Pertamina NRE’s participation in this forum also reflects the company’s long-term commitment in the region, including strategic investment in the Philippines through its 20 per cent shareholding in Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC). This investment strengthens Pertamina NRE’s position as a strategic partner in developing large-scale solar projects in the Philippines whilst opening opportunities for cross-border collaboration in NRE development.
Pertamina NRE also regards the Philippines’ experience in implementing mandatory biofuel policies as an important reference point in developing Indonesia’s bioethanol ecosystem, both from regulatory, business model, and investment incentive perspectives.
John Anis emphasised that sustainable cross-border investment can only be realised when there is alignment of vision between investors and the host country.
“Investment is not merely a transaction, but rather a long-term partnership. Shared ambition, clear economic opportunities, and motivation for collaboration through technology transfer, strengthening local capacity, and good governance are required,” he stated.
Pertamina NRE is strengthening its position as a leading player in energy transition and green investment in ASEAN, whilst promoting the creation of a stable, transparent, and collaborative investment ecosystem in the region.
