Pertamina Group Issuers Demonstrate Business Resilience Amid Fluctuations in Indonesia's Capital Market
In the midst of pressures on Indonesia’s capital market throughout the first quarter of 2026, influenced by a combination of global and domestic turbulence, Pertamina Group’s issuers have demonstrated consistent operational fundamentals and solid business resilience compared to general market pressures.
International geopolitical uncertainties have driven a broad repricing of Indonesia’s risk and affected investor sentiment towards the domestic market.
Nevertheless, Pertamina Group’s issuers have managed to maintain relatively strong performance thanks to consistent operational fundamentals, the defensive position of the energy sector, and long-term prospects supported by national energy needs.
Pertamina’s VP Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, stated that the current market dynamics are more influenced by external pressures than by the company’s core business conditions.
The current capital market fluctuations more reflect the dynamics of global and domestic risk perceptions, rather than a decline in the company’s fundamentals.
“Pertamina Group issuers continue to demonstrate resilient business strength, with solid operational performance and a strategic role in maintaining national energy resilience,” Baron said in a statement quoted on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
Several Pertamina Group issuers, based on first quarter 2026 data, including those with ticker codes PGAS (Pertamina Gas Negara), ELSA (Elnusa), PGEO (Pertamina Geothermal Energy), and TUGU (Tugu Insurance), recorded share performances that showed relative resilience against the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) and the sector, reflecting the consistent strength of business fundamentals.
However, share price movements are indeed dynamic, influenced by macroeconomic risk perceptions and Indonesia’s sovereign risk rather than company fundamentals.
“We continue to strengthen strategic communication with investors, emphasising long-term value creation, and ensuring that the market understands the fundamental strengths and growth strategies of the Pertamina Group amid global volatility,” Baron explained.
Pertamina also views the current market conditions as an opportunity to expand the investor base, improve engagement quality with analysts and the capital market, and strengthen the position of its issuers as an important part of the national energy sector and energy transition.
“As a national energy leader, Pertamina not only focuses on maintaining business performance but also ensures investor confidence remains intact through strong corporate narratives, transparency, and sustainable growth strategies,” Baron added.
In addition, Baron continued that in facing global geopolitics, Pertamina continues to implement a dual growth strategy by maintaining the stability of its core business while accelerating the development of low-carbon energy, to strengthen the company’s competitiveness and create sustainable value for Indonesian society.
As a leading company in the energy transition sector, Pertamina is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission target for 2060 and continues to promote programmes that directly impact the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
All these efforts align with Pertamina’s transformation oriented towards governance, public service, business sustainability, and the environment, by applying Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles across all business lines and operations of Pertamina.
