Pertamina Accelerates Energy Transition Across Land, Sea and Air Transport
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Pertamina (Persero) says it is continuing to accelerate the development of an energy-transition ecosystem across the land, sea and air transport sectors. Pertamina’s Director of Transformation and Business Sustainability, Agung Wicaksono, said the company plays an active role in the long-term energy transition. It is preparing technologies, strengthening the ecosystem, and building cross-sector synergies.
Agung delivered these remarks during a Sustainability Studium Generale titled ‘Global Insights for Local Action: Bridging Academia and Industry in Energy Transition’ at Pertamina University on Thursday, 21 May 2026. ‘All these efforts are directed to support the achievement of Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission target by 2060,’ he said in a press release on Saturday, 23 May 2026.
The ecosystem includes charging stations and battery swapping. Pertamina is also constructing an integrated bioethanol plant in Glenmore, Banyuwangi, East Java. The project is located in a sugarcane plantation area in Banyuwangi to secure the feedstock supply. This move is also aimed at strengthening local energy resilience.
The maritime transport sector is also part of Pertamina’s energy-transition agenda. Pertamina uses dual fuel, is developing green ammonia, and installs solar panels on deck to improve energy efficiency.
The aviation transport sector is also beginning to use low-carbon fuels. Pertamina’s airline, Pelita Air, uses sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). SAF is a substitute for aviation turbine fuel produced from used oil or used cooking oil.
