Per Capita Expenditure According to BPS 2025: Men Lead in Almost All Regions
Jakarta, Indonesia — Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) regarding per capita expenditure adjusted by gender in 2025 reveals a consumption gap between men and women across almost all regions of Indonesia.
Additionally, expenditure levels demonstrate strong concentration in major cities and areas with high economic activity.
Generally, male per capita expenditure is recorded as higher compared to women. This difference appears consistent at the national and provincial levels, as well as at the regency and city level.
According to BPS data released on Friday (13 March 2026), at the provincial level, DKI Jakarta recorded the highest per capita expenditure for both gender groups. Male expenditure reached approximately Rp 25,088, whilst female expenditure was around Rp 18,788. This high figure aligns with Jakarta’s economic structure, which is dominated by the services sector, trade, finance, and formal economic activity with relatively high income levels.
Meanwhile, in East Kalimantan, male expenditure was approximately Rp 21,218 and female expenditure Rp 8,623. The region’s characteristics as a centre for industry, international trade, and the energy sector contribute to high population consumption levels.
In Bali and the Special Region of Yogyakarta, female per capita expenditure was also relatively high compared to many other regions. Bali recorded female expenditure of approximately Rp 14,619, whilst the Special Region of Yogyakarta recorded approximately Rp 14,201.
Conversely, several provinces in eastern Indonesia recorded relatively low per capita expenditure. Mountainous Papua became the province with the lowest male expenditure at approximately Rp 7,909 and female expenditure at approximately Rp 5,099. Other provinces with the lowest female expenditure included Central Papua, at approximately Rp 4,673. This low figure is related to limited economic infrastructure, market access, and formal employment opportunities.
In East Nusa Tenggara, male expenditure was recorded at approximately Rp 11,927 and female expenditure Rp 8,100. This region continues to face challenges in economic productivity and remains vulnerable to price shocks in food and climatic factors.
