People's School in Ogan Ilir Enters Architecture and Site Planning Stage
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The construction of Sekolah Rakyat (SR) in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, is accelerating and has now entered the architecture and site planning stage. The Ministry of Public Works (PU) notes that the physical progress of the project had reached 73.33 percent as of 18 May 2026. In addition to architectural works, current works are also focused on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) installations, as well as the completion of supporting facilities in the school area.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo said that the SR construction is part of the government’s efforts to expand access to education while supporting improvements in human resources. “The construction of SR is a tangible form of the government’s commitment to building superior human resources. The Ministry of Public Works wants to ensure these educational facilities are built quickly and with quality,” he said in its press release on Tuesday (19 May 2026).
A number of educational facilities, worship facilities (house of worship), dormitories, and supporting buildings are now entering the architecture and MEP installation phase gradually.
On the site, the development of supporting facilities such as courts and sports areas is also underway.
Some works have entered the final stage, while other areas are still in the process of completing according to construction stages.
To accelerate completion, the Ministry of Public Works implements several strategic measures, including optimising the execution method using metal deck and wiremesh in the floor slab structures, adding heavy equipment, and strengthening concrete supply via batching plants at the project’s location.
Procurement of materials and main construction equipment is also continually optimised to maintain smooth progress and ensure the target construction is achieved on schedule.
The Ministry of Public Works targets the completion of the structure and roof framing by May 2026. Subsequently, façade, architecture, MEP installations, and site planning will be carried out gradually through mid-June 2026.
Acceleration of construction is achieved through synergy between the central government, regional governments, and stakeholders to ensure the project runs on time, with quality, and with the intended educational service functions.
