People are more burdensome
People are more burdensome
From Warta Kota
"Clever people are subsidized, our children are malnourished," sings singer Iwan Fals in one of his songs. This line aptly reflects the social conditions prevailing in this country at present.
The skyrocketing prices of fuel and basic necessities as well as the hike in electricity rates are causing great concern. The economic burden of the people is getting heavier.
Strangely, it is profiteers that have been made scapegoats and accused of hoarding when the fuel prices rose. The people have been lulled into believing that the blame should be placed on hoarders or profiteers and not on the economic team of the government, whose failure to improve the country's economy is obvious.
I therefore propose the following: 1. Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri as President of the Republic of Indonesia must take stern measures against the perpetrators of corruption, collusion and nepotism. 2. Indonesians from Sabang to Merauke should not be provoked by rumors which may trigger rioting. Build the spirit of cooperation and mutual help to face the soaring prices of basic necessities. 3. People of the younger generation, who spearhead changes, should not encouraged to be divisive. University students should keep up their movement to be able to respond to the ongoing crucial issues.
