Penajam Police Invite Residents to Protect Environment from Waste Pollution
Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan — The Water and Air Police Unit (Polairud) of Penajam Paser Utara Police Resort in East Kalimantan invited residents in the coastal area of Kayu Api Village, Penajam District to conduct a community clean-up operation to protect the environment from waste pollution.
“Police personnel and residents of Kayu Api Village worked together to clean beaches and rivers in the coastal area,” said the Head of the Polairud Unit of Penajam Paser Utara Police Resort, Deputy Police Commissioner (AKP) Abiyantoro, in Penajam on Saturday.
The beach and river cleaning activity, he continued, is not merely routine work but a moral movement to save the coastal environment from the threat of waste pollution.
Personnel from the Polairud Unit of Penajam Paser Utara Police Resort were divided into several teams to sweep the coastline, river banks, and public facilities and social amenities affected by waste accumulation.
The joint effort by police and residents created a clean, safe, and comfortable coastal area, he explained, as a well-maintained environment can enable the fisheries and tourism sectors to develop sustainably.
The police are also committed to supporting government programmes related to environmental conservation, particularly the issue of marine waste which must be a shared concern as it directly impacts the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems and the health of coastal communities.
“Beach and river cleaning activities are conducted to foster collective awareness so that the community becomes increasingly conscious of environmental cleanliness,” he said.
The activity was a follow-up to directives from the head of state emphasising the importance of concrete measures to clean beaches and rivers to prevent pollution and preserve the region’s tourism potential, according to Abiyantoro.
