Pelita to use Kurniawan, Glusevic

JAKARTA (JP): Pelita Jaya's striking duo of Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto and Dejan Glusevic will assume the role of spearheaders for the giant Jakarta-based club in the third Indonesian League soccer competition which kicks off today.

Pelita Jaya manager Andrie Amin said Friday that club trainers have continued to sharpen the teamwork of the two strikers who will play together in a team for the first time.

Glusevic from Montenegro returned to Pelita after playing for Bandung Raya on loan in the last two competition seasons.

"We have officially submitted a list of our players, including Glusevic, to the competition committee. We have no problem with Bandung Raya," said Andrie.

On the possibility of prolific scorer Kurniawan, widely dubbed Indonesia's hottest soccer property, being called up again by national coach Danurwindo for the Asian Cup Finals, the manager said he would let the player join the national squad.

"But frankly, we will have difficulty finding his replacement in the frontline because there are already three other Pelita players now on the national team. However if Danurwindo insists on including him in the squad, we have no choice but let him go," said Andrie.

The manager said the club would seek to make up for its failure to advance to the semifinals in the last two seasons.

"Now we have fixed our eyes firmly on making the final, or at least the semifinals."

Pelita will host PSMS Medan at Lebak Bulus stadium this afternoon. (bas)
