Pelindo Prepares 20 Passenger Terminals for Mudik Surge in Sulawesi Region
PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) Regional 4 is strengthening port service readiness ahead of the 2026 Lebaran transport period, anticipating increased public mobility during the mudik (homecoming) season.
Executive Director of Pelindo Regional 4, Abdul Azis, stated that the company has prepared various service aspects at its managed ports, particularly passenger terminals which serve as hubs for public activity.
“Pelindo Regional 4 is preparing passenger terminal facilities and operations to handle increased public mobility during the 2026 Lebaran transport period. We ensure port services run optimally, from facility readiness, passenger flow management, to coordination with all stakeholders,” Azis said in a statement received by Media Indonesia on Tuesday (10 March).
During the Lebaran transport period, Pelindo Regional 4 will operate 20 passenger terminals at various ports in eastern Indonesia. This measure ensures maritime transportation services remain smooth and safe for users.
Beyond infrastructure preparation, Pelindo is prioritising operational safety. The company continuously improves service quality through passenger terminal facility development.
During the previous Lebaran transport period, passenger terminal operations in the Regional 4 area operated smoothly with no accidents or fatalities reported.
Yusida M Palesang, Division Head of Operations at Pelindo Regional 4, stated that the company had mapped several ports likely to experience the highest passenger surges during this year’s Lebaran mudik.
“Based on evaluation of previous year’s operations, ports with the largest passenger flows are Makassar, Balikpapan, Ambon, Parepare, and Ternate. We are focusing on strengthening services at these five ports during the Lebaran transport period,” Yusida explained.
To anticipate the passenger surge, Pelindo is preparing operational measures ranging from optimising terminal facilities, managing passenger flows, to strengthening coordination with shipping operators and relevant institutions.
“We continue to strengthen coordination with all stakeholders, including shipping operators, Port Authorities, and other relevant agencies. The aim is to ensure passenger services during the Lebaran mudik remain orderly, safe, and comfortable,” Yusida added.
With these various preparations, Pelindo Regional 4 is optimistic that passenger services during the 2026 Lebaran transport period can run smoothly whilst supporting public mobility in eastern Indonesia.
