The spontaneous and courageous actions of Pelayangan Village mothers in Tembesi subdistrict to combat narcotics have received positive responses and sympathy from Batanghari Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Arya Tesa Brahma.

To hear more, Arya Tesa Brahma, accompanied by relevant officials, visited Pelayangan Village on Friday morning (29 May). Using the local village hall facilities, the police chief met with the mothers for an open dialogue.

Attendees included Muara Tembesi Police Chief Inspector Sugeng, Muara Tembesi Subdistrict Head Edi Purwanto, Pelayangan Village Head, religious leaders, and community figures.

During the lively discussion, the mothers’ representatives expressed their hope that Batanghari Police would eradicate drug trafficking activities in Pelayangan. They also requested assistance in rehabilitating local youth already addicted to narcotics.

SHARED RESPONSIBILITY

Speaking in a humane yet firm tone, Police Chief Arya Tesa Brahma stated his commitment to combating all forms of narcotics-related crimes in Batanghari Regency, including in Pelayangan Village, Muara Tembesi subdistrict.

Arya explained that eradicating narcotics crimes cannot be achieved by the police alone and requires active participation and information from all community members.

“This is a shared responsibility, as it affects our children’s future. Please help us by providing information. Do not hesitate or fear. If any officers are suspected of enabling drug crimes, report them—they will be dealt with firmly,” Arya said.

THURSDAY NIGHT ACTION

Arya did not condemn the actions of dozens of Pelayangan mothers who stormed a resident’s house on Thursday night, suspected of being used for methamphetamine use and transactions.

He stated that the mothers’ and residents’ actions were understandable given their concerns over narcotics threats, and urged the community to leave handling to the police.

However, Arya clarified that handling narcotics crimes is not straightforward. To charge a suspect, strong evidence is required, such as seizing narcotics alongside the perpetrator.
