Pekanbaru's Local Revenue Surges Sharply, Mayor Reveals Several Breakthroughs Implemented
The Pekanbaru City Government continues to implement breakthroughs and various innovations to increase local original revenue (PAD). This is evident as, amid fiscal pressures and budget efficiency, PAD in the Fortunate City has risen sharply.
Various breakthroughs were directly revealed by Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho. The man familiarly known as Agung Kencana disclosed the various breakthroughs that have become the source of the PAD increase.
“The principle is to first improve services to the public, to taxpayers. Because the public wants to pay taxes more easily, without hassle,” said Agung Nugroho in Pekanbaru on Friday (24/4/2026).
Another breakthrough is providing ease and discounts for property tax (PBB). This has proven effective, as the public has become more enthusiastic about paying taxes, with a drastic increase from the same period last year.
Agung also urged the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Agency (DPMPTSP) to simplify permitting processes. Not only that, Agung requested that permits be issued in a short time without hassle.
“For example, building permit tax (PBG). If permits are simplified and expedited, people will certainly be enthusiastic about applying. It has been proven this year that residents are compliant in paying taxes; the key is to maximise services so that the public does not feel reluctant to pay taxes,” said Agung.
In addition, there has been an increase in amusement tax, advertising tax, hotel tax, restaurant tax, and other taxes. This has resulted in a drastic rise in Pekanbaru’s PAD since Agung Nugroho’s leadership.
“Our PAD has seen a quite significant increase. So, compared to the same period, in 2025 it rose drastically. From around Rp800 billion to Rp1.2 trillion,” said Agung, who is also the Chairman of Demokrat Riau.
Most importantly, said Agung, the taxes paid must be felt by the public. One of them is through improvements to several road sections and public facilities that have previously been public complaints.
“Taxes must also be felt by the public. That’s why there are road repairs, infrastructure, public facilities, and cleanliness, all of which can be directly felt by the public. The public certainly wants the taxes they pay to also be felt by them,” said Agung.
