PT Pegadaian has enlisted 60 secondary school teachers from various regions to strengthen financial literacy in schools through its SAKU (Siap Atur Keuangan/Ready to Manage Finances) programme. The initiative positions teachers as catalysts for financial inclusion among students.

The programme aims to equip educators with a comprehensive understanding of financial management, ranging from distinguishing between needs and wants to establishing financial priorities from an early age. Training materials have been developed in alignment with regulations set by the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

Jainuddin, Head of the ESG Division at PT Pegadaian, described the programme as part of the company’s commitment to education. “The SAKU Pegadaian programme realises our educational commitment. Through participating teachers, we hope financial literacy can be transmitted to students, enabling teachers to function as agents of financial inclusion within their school communities,” he stated on Monday, 2 March 2026.

In implementation, Pegadaian has partnered with Putera Sampoerna Foundation through its Guru Binar platform. The programme ran from September 2025 to February 2026 online, encompassing Financial Literacy Teaching Media Classes and school implementation training.

The initiative concluded with the SAKU Championship, involving secondary school students from participating schools. Students were challenged to produce animated videos on financial literacy themes as a practical application of classroom material.

Wasilatul Maqfiroh, a participating teacher from SMAN 19 Surabaya, noted that the programme opened new perspectives in learning. “Financial literacy proves to be as important as other subjects. The material provided felt fresh, relevant, and highly applicable for teaching to students,” she said.

Meanwhile, Lutfiah Indirani, a student from SMA Negeri 2 Sukatani, stated that the programme helped her understand financial management from a young age. “This activity teaches me that understanding needs and wants is important right now. The material is simple, yet meaningful for my future,” she said.

At programme conclusion, organisers recognised four award categories: Best Teacher, Favourite Teacher, Best Student Group, and Favourite Student Group. The programme also supports Sustainable Development Goals targets, particularly Quality Education, by promoting greater financial awareness among young people from school level onwards.
