Peak Passenger Arrivals Occur in Daop 5 Purwokerto Region
The Eid al-Fitr homecoming flow in 1447 Hijriah in the PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daerah Operasi (Daop) 5 Purwokerto area, Central Java, has experienced a significant surge. On Thursday (19/3/2026), the number of passenger arrivals reached 34,221 people, the highest figure so far during this year’s Lebaran transport period.
Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 5 Purwokerto, M. As’ad Habibuddin, stated that the high mobility of the public has been evident from the continuously increasing ticket bookings. To date, 243,777 customers have booked tickets for the travel period from 11 March to 1 April 2026.
To accommodate this surge, KAI Daop 5 is operating 21 long-distance train services every day during the Lebaran transport period.
“We are striving to provide safe, secure, and comfortable travel services for all customers during the homecoming period,” he said.
Meanwhile, the peak departure flow from the Daop 5 area is estimated to occur from 23 to 25 March 2026, with the number of departing passengers projected to approach 27,000 people per day. This figure could still increase as ticket sales continue.
KAI also announced that discounted tickets with a 30 percent fare reduction are still available for departures from 20–29 March 2026. Approximately 4,636 seats remain available for the public to utilise in this stimulus programme.
The high number of passenger arrivals indicates that the Daop 5 Purwokerto region remains one of the main destinations for the public to celebrate Eid.
Alongside the increase in passengers, KAI urges customers to be more vigilant with their luggage and not to leave items at stations or on trains. Customers are also advised to use the Access by KAI app to monitor ticket availability in real time.
Additionally, the public is asked to plan their journey to the station carefully, including anticipating potential traffic congestion and weather conditions. Passengers are expected to arrive at the station at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure.
“We continue to remind everyone of the importance of safety and order together so that the homecoming journey runs smoothly and comfortably,” said As’ad.
Train ticket sales during the Lebaran transport period also show an upward trend. As of Sunday (15/3) afternoon or H-6 before Eid, 214,624 tickets had been sold.
KAI urges passengers to prioritise safety and vigilance during the peak travel season.
