Blitar (ANTARA) - The Central Executive Board of PDIP has reaffirmed the principle of free and active foreign policy in responding to the political situation in the Middle East, as mandated in the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution.

PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto said on Sunday that the nation’s founders, particularly Bung Karno (Indonesia’s first President Soekarno) and Bung Hatta (Indonesia’s first Vice President Mohammad Hatta), had laid a very solid foundation.

“Indonesia’s independence demonstrates a spirit of liberation for colonised nations in Asia and Africa. Therefore, independence as the right of all nations must truly be fought for and cannot be denied,” he stated in Blitar.

During the pilgrimage to Bung Karno’s grave in Blitar, Hasto added that independence must not be denied by any actions or interventions from a superpower against a sovereign nation.

According to him, this constitutes the principles of free and active foreign policy, so the Indonesian government stands firm on the mandate from the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution.

The General Chair, he said, has also held meetings with President Prabowo Subianto, one of which discussed national issues and geopolitical matters. The outcome of that discussion also explained that the key point is for national leaders to engage in dialogue with one another.

In addition, Ibu Megawati also shared experiences with President Prabowo. Previously, Megawati was invited along with other national leaders to meet, but at that time President Prabowo was attending an event outside the area.

PDIP, he said, also has firmer suggestions regarding Indonesia’s foreign policy stance.

Hasto explained that Indonesia’s independence is aimed at building world brotherhood, so as a nation that has experienced oppression, the spirit of independence is for all nations.

“Therefore, colonialism in all its forms must be abolished as it is incompatible with humanity and justice. This is what must be continued by all Presidents,” said Hasto.

He added that Bung Karno’s leadership in the struggle for national independence serves as an example and is hoped to be continued in free and active foreign policy.

Meanwhile, PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri visited her father Bung Karno’s grave in Blitar. Megawati was accompanied by family and party executives.

During the pilgrimage, the group recited prayers together and scattered flowers. After finishing, the group continued their journey.
