PDIP Pushes for Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case to be Tried in General Court
The Chairman of the PDIP Faction Group in DPR RI’s Commission III, Safaruddin, has raised the possibility of civilian involvement in the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. He is pushing for the case to be resolved in the general court. Safaruddin initially shared his views on the potential civilian involvement in the acid attack case. He noted that the TNI has also issued a press release on the matter. “I believe my colleagues are aware that the TNI’s POM has already issued a press release. Of course, the implementation will depend on how the case develops; it’s not that TNI personnel themselves are involved, but there might be civilians implicated given the ongoing investigation developments,” Safaruddin said during a press conference at the DPR RI in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3/2026). Safaruddin then discussed the application of the new Article 170 of the Criminal Code regarding case connectivity. According to him, the case must adhere to those provisions. “As mentioned by the Commission Chairman earlier, we will follow Article 170 of the new Criminal Code on how trials between military and civilians will proceed. It will be outlined there,” he stated. Further, he explained that the connectivity in question means bringing the acid attack case to the general court. He emphasised that the Commission III DPR working group was formed to oversee this. “Yes, due to this connectivity, the trial will be based on Article 170 of the Criminal Code. That’s why we formed the working group to monitor it,” he clarified. “This is why we need to see synergy between Polri and TNI. So, just read Article 170 of the Criminal Code; the trial will be in the general court,” he added.
