PDIP Legislator Requests Trial in Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case to Be Held in General Court
JAKARTA - A member of House of Representatives Commission III from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) faction, Safaruddin, is pushing for the trial in the acid attack case against Deputy Coordinator for External Affairs of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras), Andrie Yunus, to be held in a general court.
Safaruddin also highlighted Article 170 of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).
“Just read Article 170 of the KUHAP; the trial will then be public, pushed to the general court,” said Safaruddin at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
Moreover, this is a case of connexity involving TNI members and civilians.
House of Representatives Commission III has also formed a working committee (panja) to monitor the acid attack case against Andrie.
“Yes, this is because of the connexity; the trial for this connexity will be based on Article 170 of the KUHAP. That’s why we formed the Panja to monitor it later,” he said.
Through this panja, said Safaruddin, Commission III of the House of Representatives will also hold a Hearing of Opinions with all parties to push for the case to be thoroughly uncovered.
“Until it’s complete. There is no (time limit),” he stated.
It is known that House of Representatives Commission III formed the panja related to the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus.
The panja was decided as a conclusion of the Commission III meeting at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon.
As a result of the attack, Andrie suffered burns to several parts of his body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. From the investigation results, four Indonesian National Army (TNI) personnel were involved in the acid attack against the Kontras activist.
“This morning I received information that four people suspected of being perpetrators carried out the assault against brother Andri Yunus,” said TNI Deputy Chief of Staff for Military Police Major General Yusri Nuryanto during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Nevertheless, Yusri has not announced the roles and motives of the acid attack against the activist.
“So we are still delving into the motive,” Yusri emphasised.
