PDIP Legislator Educates Bali Village Heads on Law to Prevent Them from Becoming Involved in Legal Cases
Jakarta, VIVA – A member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, I Wayan Sudirta, gave legal briefings to 10 village heads in Susut Sub-district, Bangli Regency, Bali during the DPR RI’s Session III recess for the 2025-2026 session. This was done as education and preventive measure to ensure village heads are not entangled in legal cases when implementing government programs, whose funding comes from state finances. “All village heads want to serve the community and manage budgets calmly and safely, and they need legal insight so that they do not end up entangled in corruption cases due to administrative errors,” Wayan said in a written statement on Thursday, 5 March 2026. The village heads, he noted, hope there will be programs related to legal competence, including in connection with the Attorney General’s Office as a partner. “Don’t let the village heads be entangled in maladministration that could lead to corruption or other legal problems, due to a lack of understanding of law,” he added. “Such a good initiative, so that village heads can focus on serving the people in managing the state budget poured into village programs,” the PDIP legislator said. Additionally, Wayan said the village heads also expect support from community leaders, legal experts, and advocacy for residents in health services, education and other social services. Regarding the communication arrangements, technically it will be coordinated further, whether to form KORdEM (Coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations and Community Exponents) in Susut, Bangli, or another form to be determined later. KORdEM, established in 2003 across Bali, including in the Bangli region, has provided support to obtain free health services for residents suffering from scaly skin diseases and from poor families. Health services for the poor remain a priority for the community and have attracted attention from volunteers within KORdEM. “What matters is that the aspirations raised during the recess meetings can be sustained,” explained the Bali-based legislator. Therefore, Wayan suggested that the initiative by the village heads and the Susut sub-district head could be developed by other village heads in Bali.
