PDIP East Java Distributes 360,000 Basic Food Parcels During Ramadan
PDIP East Java held a Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration attended by 500 orphans and 50 widows on Thursday 5 March. In this Ramadan period, PDIP Jatim also distributed hundreds of thousands of basic food parcels to the public. PDIP East Java chairman Said Abdullah said that since 1 March they had distributed 360,000 basic food parcels across East Java, including rice, cooking oil and sugar. ‘East Java has a large population, our capacity is what matters; internally we can all pull together,’ he said, as quoted by Detikjatim on Thursday 5 March 2026. Said explained why PDIP Jatim invited orphans and widows to the Nuzulul Qur’an event. He said their presence is expected to bring blessings to all party cadres. ‘Why did the DPD PDI Perjuangan deliberately invite orphans? As explained by Kiai Abdul Wahab Yahya, Deputy Chair of the Religious Affairs Wing of PDIP Jatim, there are 500 orphans. It’s not because we want to give blessings; not because Mr Deni (Secretary of PDIP Jatim) Ms Reni (Treasurer of PDIP Jatim), Mbah Kakung give blessings; not because PDIP Jatim gives blessings, but because everyone in PDIP Jatim wants to receive blessings from our orphans,’ he added. He hopes PDIP will receive blessings from the prayers of the orphans and widows. In Islam, their prayers are believed to be answered. ‘So the intention here is that at this Nuzulul Qur’an gathering this evening, we sincerely hope the prayers of the widows and orphans will be answered by Allah SWT,’ he added. Said went on to say that PDIP, as a party traditionally associated with the ‘wong cilik’, wants to celebrate Nuzulul Qur’an with ordinary people, especially orphans and the needy. ‘We do this because of our ideology, our love, the love of our party as the party of the wong cilik, PDIP alongside the wong cilik. May the blessings be what we all obtain together with the widows and orphans—God willing, those blessings,’ he said. He also hopes PDIP Jatim will continue to assist the ‘wong cilik’ and craft policies that are pro-people. ‘Hopefully this is not the last Ramadan for us all. God willing, we will meet again in Ramadan next year, and we will pray for long life, a blessed life, and a life that is blessed by Allah the Almighty,’ he concluded.
