PDIP Clarifies Stance as Balancing Force, Not 'Grey' Opposition
Responding to a jab from the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) has clarified its political stance, asserting that it acts as a ‘balancing force’ rather than occupying a ‘grey’ area. DPP PDIP Chairman Said Abdullah explained that the decision to become a balancing force is an official mandate from the party’s National Working Meeting. He stated that this position is based on an objective and proportional assessment of every government policy. “If the performance and policies of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration are good and beneficial to the people, PDIP is fully committed to providing support until the term ends in 2029,” Said said on Friday (19/6/2026). “Conversely, if the policies and performance are lacking, we will offer constructive reminders.” Said distinguished this from a pure opposition stance, which he described as a political will to be completely contrary to the ruling government and to seek electoral gain from the government’s weaknesses. He revealed that President Prabowo Subianto himself understands and respects PDIP’s chosen political path. The clarification came after PKB politician Jazilul Fawaid urged PDIP to declare itself as a clear opposition party to avoid political ambiguity, arguing that the current coalition is working hard to execute strategic programmes and needs clarity from outside parties.
