PDI-P Secretary General Welcomes KPK Proposal to Require Parties to Report State-Funded Political Education Activities
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) welcomes the proposal from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to require parties to report political education activities funded by state financial assistance. PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto views the proposal as aligned with the importance of political education within the party structure. “Yes, it is aligned. Even my dissertation has revealed the importance of political education and cadre development as part of the strategic function in party institutionalisation,” Hasto said when met at the PDI-P Party School in South Jakarta on Saturday (18/4/2026). “Therefore, the KPK’s proposal must be elaborated because political education is a primary function of the party that must be carried out as the party’s responsibility in recruitment and preparing candidates for leadership in all strategic aspects of national and state life,” Hasto added. The proposal was presented in a study on political party governance. In the report, the KPK identified several issues, including the absence of a roadmap for implementing political education and the lack of a political party financial reporting system. Additionally, the KPK found no integrated cadre system standards and unclear supervisory institutions under the Political Parties Law.
