PD Supports Formation of Special Task Force for Permitting: It Should Be One-Stop Shop
Investment is a crucial instrument for economic growth, and ideally, all permitting should be easier and less complicated. I agree with what President Prabowo stated,” said Herman to reporters on Friday (15/5/2026). “In fact, going forward, if permitting has indeed become a presidential directive, it should be under one roof at the Ministry of Investment,” he added. According to him, the permitting process has so far often gone through various sectoral institutions and levels of government. Therefore, simplifying permitting requires the transfer of authority and harmonisation of regulations. “Usually, permitting must be pursued through several related sectoral institutions, even according to government levels, both at provincial and regency/city levels, so if it is to be simplified, there must be a transfer of authority,” he explained. He assessed that harmonisation of related laws is necessary. Herman hopes that with this task force, the permitting process will be more efficient. “Harmonisation of laws and regulations is needed; the task force mentioned by the president could be to inventory the laws and regulations and unify them under one roof, making it easier and less complicated,” he said. Previously, Prabowo Subianto asked the Minister for State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi to form a special task force to accelerate deregulation and simplify permitting in Indonesia. Prabowo believes that convoluted regulations hinder investment and open opportunities for corrupt practices. Prabowo emphasised that Indonesia must learn from neighbouring countries that are considered faster in issuing business permits. According to him, the lengthy permitting process causes investors, including those from abroad, to complain about the business climate in Indonesia. “Ease permitting, don’t make it difficult. Businesspeople also complain. They want to work and invest, but sometimes they wait for permits for one year, two years. Whereas in other countries, it’s two weeks. We must refer to neighbouring countries. If they can issue permits in two weeks, why do we take two years?” said Prabowo. Therefore, Prabowo asked Mensesneg Prasetyo Hadi to gather experts to form a special deregulation task force. That task force is tasked with simplifying rules and accelerating permitting. “Yes, colleagues, I ask the State Secretary to gather experts to form a special task force to accelerate deregulation. Simplify, don’t complicate,” he said.
