PBNU Chairman KH Ahmad Fahrur Rozi (Gus Fahrur) has expressed his hope that the observance of Ramadan fasting this year will proceed smoothly. He reminded the public about the culture of mutual respect, including in the manner of waking people for the pre-dawn sahur meal.

"Waking people for sahur is a virtuous practice, but it must be carried out with proper etiquette so as not to disturb others," Gus Fahrur told reporters on Thursday (19/2/2026).

Gus Fahrur cautioned against waking people for sahur too early. He also urged the public to use reasonable volume levels when rousing nearby residents.

"Avoid waking people for sahur too early, as this can disrupt the community's rest," said Gus Fahrur.

"Use a reasonable volume — do not shout or use loudspeakers excessively. Use melodious tones or courteous messages," he added.

He expressed hope that tolerance among Indonesian communities could be continually maintained. Gus Fahrur suggested that the manner of waking people for sahur should first be discussed with local residents through deliberation.

"Environmental tolerance — please be mindful of the presence of non-Muslim neighbours, the elderly, the ill, or infants who have no obligation to observe sahur. In pluralistic communities, it is advisable to seek permission or hold consultations beforehand regarding the method of waking people for sahur," he urged.

The Indonesian government has designated 19 February 2026 as the first day of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. Meanwhile, PP Muhammadiyah determined the first day of Ramadan 1447 H to be Wednesday, 18 February 2026 — one day earlier than the government and Nahdlatul Ulama.
