Pawnshop 'stormed'
JAKARTA (JP): A pawn shop owned by the state-owned pawn shop company Perum Pegadaian in North Jakarta has been "stormed" by many customers.
Sjardang Hidayat, head of the North Jakarta pawn shop, said that over 400 hundred customers flocked to the shop on Monday, up from about 150 per day on ordinary days.
"Sixty percent of the customers came to take their belongings, mainly gold necklaces, which might be used during the Idul Fitri holidays, while the remaining 40 percent pawned their goods to obtain cash," Sjardang told Antara.
He said 80 percent of the goods pawned at his shop consists of gold jewelry and motorcycles and the other 20 percent electronic equipment. (hhr)
