Passenger Numbers for 2026 Homecoming Travel at Kalideres Terminal Plunge 51 Percent
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Kalideres Bus Terminal in West Jakarta has recorded a drastic decline in the number of departing passengers during the 2026 Lebaran homecoming season. The drop in departure figures has even reached 51 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. Head of Kalideres Bus Terminal, Nur Prasetyo, confirmed the significant reduction in the number of homecomers. “Yes, for passengers during this year’s Lebaran transport period, compared to last year, there has indeed been a decline in those departing. The highest drop is 51 percent compared to the previous year,” said Tyo when met by Kompas.com at Kalideres Terminal on Tuesday (24/3/2026). If in 2025 there were 3,634 departing passengers on H-2 Lebaran, then in 2026 the figure fell to just 1,745 passengers. “Indeed, fewer people are departing via Kalideres Bus Terminal compared to the previous year,” Tyo stated. “In 2025, passengers at Kalideres Terminal at the peak of the homecoming flow on H-3 reached 6,115, this year only 3,653,” he explained. Tyo suspects there are several main factors causing the decline in public interest in homecoming using regular buses from the terminal. One of them is the impact of the widespread free homecoming programmes organised by the government and private parties. “Yes, it is predicted that besides the free homecoming, the holidays are too short between Christmas and New Year and Lebaran transport,” Tyo explained. According to him, the time gap of around three months is felt to be too short for the public, especially in terms of finances, to bring the entire family back to their hometowns. “Where Christmas and New Year itself we see the holidays are already quite long and finally the short gap of only 3 months directly entering Lebaran, not many people have to homecoming bringing their families in a tempo of 3 months twice returning to the village,” he said.
