PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) plans to expand the KA tracks, blue line (Cikarang-Kampung Bandan), red line (Jakarta - Bogor), and green line (Tanah Abang-Rangkasbitung), as an effort to strengthen public transportation services through the development of track electrification in urban areas and supporting regions.

This is being done in line with the development of residential, industrial, and economic activity areas, where public movement is expanding and showing a continuously increasing trend from year to year.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that with this growth, the ongoing track electrification provides room for strengthening services.

Travel frequency can be increased, transport capacity added, and operational patterns become more flexible to meet needs.

“With the continuously increasing trend, service development is directed to reach more areas. The Rangkasbitung line has the potential to be extended to Merak, the Bogor line to Sukabumi, and the Cikarang line towards Cikampek,” she continued.

This development is expected to open wider access, strengthen inter-regional connectivity, while encouraging the formation of new economic growth nodes.

“We continue this development gradually so that services can keep up with public needs. The hope is that travel becomes easier to access, more comfortable, and supports economic activities in various regions,” Anne concluded.

Based on KAI data, on the Rangkasbitung line, KRL user growth shows a consistent increase.

In 2022, there were 43.3 million users, then increasing to 77.5 million users in 2025. This trend continues into 2026, where in January–March alone it has reached 20.1 million users.

Growth is also seen in the Rangkasbitung–Merak local train service.

The number of users increased from 3.6 million in 2023 to 4.4 million in 2025, and in January–March 2026 has reached 1.1 million users.

On the Bogor line, the movement volume is on a much larger scale.

The number of KRL users was recorded at 102.05 million in 2022, increasing to 133.04 million in 2023, then 145.920.264 in 2024, and reaching 155 million in 2025.

Entering 2026, in the first quarter it has already recorded 38.2 million users, showing a trend that is still continuously increasing.
