A number of questions arose concerning the recent Pasar Kebon
Kembang fire in Bogor, particularly about the real number of
victims. The Bogor mayor stated the fire claimed only 10 lives,
which was confirmed by Ramayana Department Store, the police and
the Bogor hospital's forensic department. The statements counter
media reports of the fire victims totaling 70 or so.

It was surprising when newspaper reports said there were 65
bags yet to undergo examination in the hospital morgue. More
perplexing still when the hospital staff suddenly barred
newspeople and the public from entering the morgue, and then
closed off all the passages to it. It was stated that the 65 bags
contained nothing but mannequins. This is incredible! Can't they
distinguish human corpses from other items? Professional people
should be able to identify things from their smell. I could not
believe such a huge blunder could occur.
