Parts of city suffer water shortages

JAKARTA: People in some parts of the city are suffering from a shortage of clean water due to a decrease in the water supply.

The raw water supply from Perum Jasa Tirta (PJT) II during last weekend was only 70 percent of the normal raw water supply, PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (PALYJA) said on Monday. As a result, the clean water production and distribution from the Pejompongan Water Treatment Plant has been temporarily disrupted.

PALYJA has been using the Banjir Canal to add more raw water to its production. However, currently the quality and quantity of the water from the Banjir Canal is inadequate, leaving PALYJA unable to compensate for the loss from PJT II.

Areas such as Muara Karang, Sawah Besar, Latumenten, Tanjung Duren, Daan Mogot, Jembatan Besi-Jelambar, Harmoni, Menteng Wadas, Palbatu, Jl. Proklamasi and its surroundings, are likely to be affected and could experience water shortages.

The clean water production at Pejompongan has gradually improved, but it will take a few more days to normalize the clean water supply in PALYJA's distribution network.
