JAKARTA — A member of Commission VIII of the Indonesian Parliament’s House of Representatives, Dini Rahmania, is urging the government to prepare special transport arrangements ahead of the Nyepi festival, which coincides with the scheduled Lebaran exodus period in 2026.

Rahmania believes that the proximity of these two major religious observances warrants serious governmental attention, particularly because Nyepi falls directly during the Lebaran exodus period.

“In my view, the convergence of Nyepi and Idul Fitri in 2026 must be a serious concern for the government, as Nyepi takes place right in the middle of the Lebaran exodus period,” Rahmania stated at the Parliament building in Jakarta on Thursday (12 March 2026).

One key step required, according to her, is strengthening cross-ministerial and inter-agency coordination from the outset.

“First, cross-ministerial and inter-agency coordination must be initiated early on, particularly with the Ministry of Transport, the National Police, regional governments, and religious leaders,” Rahmania said.

Additionally, the government must enhance public awareness campaigns regarding Nyepi’s scheduled dates, especially for travellers passing through or heading to areas with predominantly Hindu populations, such as Bali.

“The public must receive clear information about when Nyepi will be observed, particularly in predominantly Hindu areas like Bali, so that travellers can plan their journeys in advance,” she explained.

According to her, Hindu worshippers must be able to observe Nyepi peacefully, whilst Muslim travellers remain able to undertake their journeys and celebrate Idul Fitri comfortably.

“Then there is a need for specific technical arrangements in directly affected areas, such as transport regulation, airport and port operations, and logistics routes, so as not to disrupt Nyepi observance whilst maintaining smooth public mobility,” she stated.

The Nasdem politician added that the convergence of Nyepi and Idul Fitri in 2026 could also serve as an example of tolerance in national life.

“I see this moment as an opportunity to demonstrate the nation’s tolerance and maturity in managing diversity. With careful planning and good communication, I am confident that these two major religious observances can proceed smoothly and with mutual respect,” she concluded.
