In line with the social aspect of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, companies must provide benefits, one of which is by absorbing local labour. Kendari (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives’ Commission XII is monitoring mining companies in Southeast Sulawesi Province to optimise the absorption of local labour as an implementation of social benefit principles. Commission XII Chairman Bambang Patijaya stated that the presence of investments in the mining sector must deliver real impacts for communities in the mining area through job creation. “In line with the social aspect of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, the existence of companies must provide benefits, one of which is by absorbing local labour,” said Bambang in Kendari on Wednesday. Nevertheless, according to him, the optimisation of local labour absorption must be a two-way process, accompanied by improvements in community competencies to match industry requirements. “The community must also enhance their capacity and productivity to meet the companies’ needs,” he said. “Improving the quality and capacity of the workforce is also very important,” he added. Commission XII hopes that the mining sector in Southeast Sulawesi not only becomes a driver of national economic growth but also improves community welfare sustainably. During the visit, Commission XII held meetings with several mining companies, including PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, PT ANTAM Tbk, PT Makmur Lestari Primatama, and PT Riota Jaya Lestari.
