Parliament Commits to 'Meaningful Participation' in Domestic Workers Protection Bill Discussion
House Speaker Puan Maharani stated that the discussion process for the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) remains in the phase of absorbing input from various parties. Puan emphasised that parliament is involving meaningful participation from all stakeholders.
“Regarding the matter that was just asked about (RUU PPRT), we are currently still requesting input related to this matter so that we receive more input from certain parties,” Puan said following a plenary parliament session at the Nusantara II building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
Puan stressed the importance of absorbing input from various elements to ensure the bill’s content is more comprehensive. Additionally, participation from various parties is necessary to prevent overlaps with other regulations.
“Meaningful participation not only from one party but from all relevant parties so that it is more comprehensive and we avoid any overlaps with other laws,” she said.
The parliament’s Legislative Body (Baleg) has previously set a target for the Domestic Workers Protection Bill to be passed this year. Baleg Chair Bob Hasan said the body is continuing consultations and opening public participation in the preparation of the RUU PPRT.
“If it’s to be this year, then it’s confirmed for this year. However, for the specific month, I cannot give such an estimate,” Bob Hasan said at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (5 March).
Hasan said the body will continue discussions after the parliament’s session begins on 10 March. He expressed hope that the various inputs received will help refine the draft of the RUU PPRT.
