Commission I of the Indonesian Parliament will summon the military regarding the establishment of Alert Status I. House Speaker Puan Maharani stated that the summons seeks clarification on the background and urgency of implementing Alert Status I.

“We will request the relevant commission to question the military on this matter,” said Puan at Nusantara II, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 10 March 2025, according to an official Parliament statement.

She noted that in principle, the state’s defence apparatus must always be in a state of readiness to address various potential developments in the global situation. However, if there is a formal decision regarding an increase in alert status, comprehensive explanations regarding the reasons and considerations are necessary.

“Of course, concrete clarification is needed as to whether this is truly necessary,” said Puan.

Puan stated that such explanation is important so that the public obtains a clear picture of security conditions and the anticipatory measures adopted by the state. Parliament, through Commission I which oversees defence and foreign relations, will perform its oversight function by requesting clarification from relevant partners.

“It would be better for the military to provide concrete explanation so that the public understands what is actually the basis of this policy,” said the legislator from the PDI-Struggle faction.

According to Puan, transparency of information on strategic issues such as national security is important for maintaining public trust whilst ensuring that each policy step is taken in a measured manner. Parliament will continue to monitor developments in the global situation that could potentially impact national interests, including the dynamics of Middle Eastern conflict which has recently intensified.

Through the oversight mechanism in the relevant commissions, Parliament ensures that every step taken by state apparatus remains within a clear policy framework and considers national interests comprehensively.

Previously, the head of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Kabais), Lieutenant General Yudi Abrimantyo, stated that Alert Status I, issued by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, was addressed to all TNI ranks.

Alert Status I in TNI command represents the highest level of readiness, in which all personnel are required to be on standby at their barracks, fully equipped with weapons, ammunition, and vehicles to address emergency threats.

According to Yudi, this status was established to anticipate the domestic security situation following attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran. This is because the attacks triggered retaliation from Iran, which launched strikes at several US military bases located in Middle Eastern countries.

As a result, the retaliatory strikes impacted the security of Indonesian nationals in the region. “The TNI, as the frontline guardian of the integrity of the Indonesian Republic, must anticipate every development in the situation that occurs, both in the global, regional, and national sphere,” he said when contacted on Saturday, 7 March 2026.

The document of the commander’s telegram regarding Alert Status I was signed by the TNI Commander’s Operations Assistant (Asops), Lieutenant General Bobby Rinal Makmun in Jakarta on 1 March 2026. The document contained seven important instructions for the TNI, ranging from orders to activate personnel and main weapons systems to the deployment of soldiers for patrols at strategic locations in Jakarta.

Alert Status I applies from when the telegram was issued until completion. “This telegram is an order,” according to the contents of the telegram obtained by Tempo on Saturday, 7 March 2026.
