Parit Baru Village Slum Area Redevelopment Budget of Rp 7.33 Billion
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.COM — The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) is carrying out the rehabilitation of housing and settlement infrastructure in Parit Baru Village, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, under a contract valued at Rp 7.33 billion. The budget is allocated for the construction and upgrading of basic housing infrastructure in a 19.92-hectare slum area inhabited by 3,492 people. The works include the construction of 2,565.70 metres of local roads, 2,001.47 metres of drainage, 90 units of waste management, 4 fire-protection facilities, and 180 clean-water connections (SR). At present, the project progress stands at 87.12 percent and is targeted for completion on 15 March 2026. Minister of PKP, Maruarar Sirait, stressed that addressing the slum area is not only about physical construction but also part of a strategy to improve residents’ quality of life. “We want an area that was previously slum to become orderly, healthy, and productive. With an area of almost 20 hectares and thousands of residents living here, the state must provide a real solution,” Ara said, the PKP Minister’s nickname, in a statement released on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. “We are not working alone. Local governments play a key role in ensuring the sustainability of the area redevelopment. We also encourage the community to participate in safeguarding and maintaining the results of the development,” he added. Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, who accompanied the visit, emphasised the importance of synchronising and reconciling data on slum housing between the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and local governments. “There needs to be a data reconciliation on housing uninhabitable housing between BPS and local governments so that the data are consistent, valid, and targeted. With accurate data, government interventions will be more effective and not overlapping,” Tito said. Local residents also expressed appreciation. Toni, head of RT 02 Mawar Lane and a beneficiary, said thanks for the redevelopment. The project is expected to spur local economic growth, improve environmental health, and provide a sense of safety and comfort for the 3,492 residents living in the area. The PKP Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating slum area redevelopment programs across various regions as part of an inclusive and sustainable housing and settlement development agenda.
