Parents Reject Construction of Padel Court in Front of School in Bekasi, Citing Noise and Safety Concerns
BEKASI - Plans to build a padel court near the Asshodriyah Islamic School (AIS) on Jalan Caman Raya, Jatibening Ward, Pondok Gede Subdistrict, Bekasi City, West Java, have been rejected by the school and parents. The approximately 2,000-square-metre sports facility is feared to disrupt student comfort and safety during teaching and learning activities, as it is located directly in front of the school. “As parents, we strongly reject it. The padel court will cause noise, and the construction process is not safe,” said Moniqe to the media at the site on Friday (8/5/2026). She assessed that the construction is being carried out without adequate safety measures. To date, no safety nets, tarps, or barriers are visible in the project area. Moniqe said she is worried that construction materials could endanger students. Moreover, the work is said to take place from the morning when school activities are ongoing. “I’m afraid if iron is thrown and hits the children,” she said. Besides safety and noise factors, she also highlighted the construction site’s location in a densely active area, close to the LRT route and access to Jalan Kalimalang, which is prone to traffic jams. “Perhaps the permit can be reviewed again. If possible, it should be cancelled (the construction),” she said. As a form of rejection, the parents have coordinated with the school, put up protest banners, and created a petition signed by more than 2,000 people. “We also uploaded it on Instagram and tagged several parties such as West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, Bekasi Mayor, to the Regional Education Office. We hope it will be followed up immediately,” said Moniqe. Meanwhile, the Head of Asshodriyah Islamic School Bekasi, Ahmad Baidowi, said the school has rejected the padel court construction from the start because its location is too close to the student learning area. “We are concerned it will disturb the comfort of the children’s teaching and learning process,” said Ahmad.
