Papua Provincial Government Receives Foreign Investment Plan for Fisheries and Agriculture
The Papua Provincial Government is opening investment cooperation opportunities for the development of the fisheries and agriculture sectors in the region.
The plan emerged during a meeting between Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri and Philemon Arobaya, former Indonesian Ambassador to Chile (2014–2019), in Jayapura City.
During the meeting, Philemon presented plans to bring foreign investors to develop Papua’s natural resources potential, particularly in the fisheries and agriculture sectors.
“I discussed with the Governor to request guidance regarding investment opportunities that can be developed in Papua, especially in fisheries and agriculture,” Philemon said on Tuesday (10/3/2026).
According to him, over the past two to three years he has maintained communication with several foreign investors to build various economic support facilities in Papua. The investment plans include plantation development, agricultural processing plants, and the construction of fishing ports.
He assessed that both sectors have significant potential for development as they can provide direct benefits for community welfare, particularly for fishermen and farmers.
Philemon also revealed that the investors currently being explored are from China and are part of a consortium of companies operating in various business sectors.
“The investors with whom we are developing communication are from China and will be focused on developing the fisheries and agriculture sectors,” he said.
