Pandji Pragiwaksono Hopes His Case Will Be Resolved Through Restorative Justice
Jakarta – Comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono has expressed hope that a report filed against him regarding stand-up comedy material considered offensive to the Toraja ethnic group can be resolved through a restorative justice approach.
Pragiwaksono reasoned that he has already undergone a traditional adat hearing with the Toraja community regarding his conduct.
“My hope is indeed that restorative justice be prioritised, because dialogue between myself and legitimate representatives of the Toraja community has already taken place,” said Pragiwaksono following his examination by the Police Criminal Investigation Directorate (Bareskrim Polri) on Monday, 9 March 2026.
Pragiwaksono stated that during today’s examination, investigators questioned him extensively regarding his participation in the adat hearing in Toraja.
According to Pragiwaksono, the traditional hearing he participated in constituted a legitimate form of mediation as it was attended by representatives from all adat regions in Toraja.
He explained that the adat hearing was attended by representatives from 32 adat regions and seven traditional judges who presided over the proceedings.
“All adat regions in Toraja were represented, with delegates present, and the seven chief judges also attended. So that is a legitimate and proper mediation process because it was complete,” he stated.
Pragiwaksono acknowledged that he has not yet been informed whether investigators will summon him for further examination.
However, he emphasised that he would comply with the entire legal process and is confident that the matter will find clarity.
“I believe this will all find resolution. I’ll just follow through the process. I have confidence in the process underway,” he said.
In a statement on social media platform X, human rights advocate Natalius Pigai remarked: “The legal process against Pandji Pragiwaksono falls within police jurisdiction, which we respect. However, law enforcement also requires wisdom and discretion in the form of restorative justice. The important thing is that Pandji Pragiwaksono has already received social punishment.”
Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji, Director of Cybercrime at Bareskrim Polri, had previously stated that investigators had questioned several witnesses and experts to examine the case in detail.
