PAN wants Bagir investigated
JAKARTA: The National Mandate Party (PAN) demanded on Sunday
that the Judicial Commission immediately question Supreme Court
Chief Justice Bagir Manan in connection with bribery allegations.
The call was made by M. Nadjib, secretary of the PAN faction
in the House of Representatives.
Bagir was implicated in the case after the Sept. 29 arrest by
the Corruption Eradication Commission of Harini Wijoyo, a former
judge in Yogyakarta, along with five officials at the Supreme
Court on charges of attempting to bribe justices.
Harini is currently a lawyer for former president Soeharto's
half-brother Probosutedjo, who is appealing against his prison
sentence for corruption.
Nadjib said the bribery case was a bad precedence in law
enforcement by Bagir's office and should be investigated urgently
and thoroughly. --Antara
