PAN backs President Prabowo's steps to tackle global turmoil
Partai Amanat Nasional (PAN) backs President Prabowo Subianto’s steps in addressing global turmoil. According to him, the move is in line with the Constitution, namely to maintain world order.
PAN’s General Chair and Coordinating Minister for Food Security Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) expressed appreciation for the President Prabowo’s swift and firm move to immediately convene a strategic meeting at Istana Merdeka to discuss various scenarios of the impacts of escalation in global conflicts, specifically related to the US-Israel attack on Iran.
This was stated by him during the Iftar with the DPP PAN in Jakarta, on Friday (6 March 2026).
“PAN will always support President Prabowo to participate (as mandated by the Constitution) in maintaining world order. The principle is better that we take part rather than be outside and unable to do anything,” Zulhas said in a written statement, Saturday (7 March 2026).
Zulhas reminded that the current global geopolitical turmoil has a high potential to put pressure on commodity prices, disrupt international supply chains, and affect fiscal stability and national food security. In this situation, Indonesia needs leadership that is calm, rational, and capable of quickly making strategic decisions.
“We must be proactive in anticipating and mitigating various risks from escalation of the global conflict. The most crucial is to safeguard the economy, energy resilience, and of course national food security. This is not merely a matter of the stomach; this is about the sovereignty of the country,” he said.
Zulkifli Hasan also outlined the government’s achievements and strategic steps toward realising food self-sufficiency. He stressed that in the face of global uncertainty, Indonesia must not rely on international markets for the basic needs of the people.
The fish self-sufficiency programme, according to Zulhas, is one of the flagship focus areas. Indonesia, as the world’s largest maritime nation, must be able to optimise its sea potential. This is expected to meet the people’s protein needs while strengthening the livelihoods of fishermen and fish farmers.
“We continue to push for comprehensive food self-sufficiency. Rice self-sufficiency, corn self-sufficiency, fish self-sufficiency, and other strategic commodities. Farmers must be strong, production must rise, distribution must be efficient. The state must ensure that food is available and affordable for all Indonesians,” Zulhas said.
