Jakarta — PAM Jaya, the Jakarta Public Water Utility, will investigate the clean water crisis in the RW 03 area of Jembatan Besi, Tambora, West Jakarta. Senior Manager Corporate & Customer Communications PAM Jaya, Gatra Vaganza, said on Wednesday from Jakarta that the situation, which has persisted since late January 2026, is the result of the excavation work for the Latumeten flyover project. However, even after the pipe repair was completed about 14 days ago, the problem persists in the RW 03 Jembatan Besi residential area.

‘Well, in the RW 03 area this is somewhat an anomaly, because in other areas water is still flowing,’ he said when contacted by ANTARA. ‘From our side we are checking; firstly, there may be a clogging or blockage.’

Currently, the technical team has been searching for the blockage point for the past week, but has not found it.

‘This has in fact been about a week since we started looking. Because the blockage occurs only in RW 03, our technical team keeps seeking a solution,’ he added.

As a temporary measure, PAM Jaya is continuing to dispatch one clean-water tanker truck each day to meet the needs of residents of RW 03.

Residents in the Jembatan Besi area, Tambora district, West Jakarta, have again complained about difficulties obtaining clean water, with PAM Jaya water that had previously flowed turning dirty and smelling unpleasant.

‘On Monday (2 March) it did flow, but some residents reported the water was dirty, with an odour resembling sewage,’ said Ketua RT 07/RW 03 Jembatan Besi, Dian, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to Dian, residents were quite surprised because after a long spell of dryness, the water coming from PAM Jaya’s pipes suddenly turned dirty and smelled of sewage.

Since Sunday (1 March), Dian said, the PAM water had flowed albeit at a very small volume or trickling. Then, on Tuesday (2 March), the water again stopped completely until today.

‘Here, some residents keep their taps turned on, so you can tell when there is water. Yesterday it only trickled, but that was dirty,’ Dian said.
