Jakarta (ANTARA) - PAM Jaya targets the entire area of DKI Jakarta to have 100% access to clean water services by 2029, necessitating acceleration to realise this goal. “Accelerating piped water services is a strategic step to address environmental challenges and the needs of Jakarta’s residents,” said PAM JAYA’s Director of Strategy and Business, Anugrah Esa, in Jakarta on Wednesday. He emphasised that PAM Jaya’s target is to ensure all Jakarta residents receive access to decent piped water by 2029. He added that this acceleration not only relates to public services but also supports achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly on clean water and sanitation access. He explained that to reach the 2029 target, PAM Jaya is preparing several strategic steps, including expanding service coverage to reach the entire Jakarta area. It will also add around two million new customers and carry out gradual revitalisation of the pipe network. The company is also implementing innovations such as water purifiers and reducing single-use plastic consumption. According to him, with these various efforts, PAM JAYA is optimistic that the 100% clean water service target can be achieved faster than the initial plan. He stated that one introduced innovation is the use of water filtration technology or “water purifier”. According to him, the water processed from PAM Jaya’s installations already meets drinking water standards as per Ministry of Health regulations. However, the age of old pipes can cause water quality to decline by the time it reaches customers’ homes. “This water purifier serves as an interim solution, and with this device, piped water can be drunk directly without needing to buy bottled water, making it more economical and environmentally friendly,” he said.
