Palestinian Muslims Offer Eid al-Adha Prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque
The courtyard surrounding Israel-occupied Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem was filled with worshippers performing Eid al-Adha prayers on the first day of the four-day holiday. According to Anadolu Agency on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, this year’s Eid al-Adha—one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic calendar—took place amid ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement in effect since October 2025. Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported over 880 deaths and more than 2,645 injuries from Israeli attacks since the Israel-Hamas ceasefire was declared on 10 October. The agreement was intended to halt the Israeli war, which has killed over 72,000 people—mostly women and children—and injured more than 172,000, causing widespread damage affecting approximately 90% of civilian infrastructure since October 2023. Israeli forces recently claimed to have killed Mohammed Awda in a Gaza Strip attack, accusing him of being newly appointed commander of Hamas’s armed wing. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Katz also stated that troops targeted Awda in an airstrike in Gaza City. The claims followed a major Israeli bombing of densely populated areas in central Gaza City on Eid al-Adha evening, which killed a Palestinian woman and injured others, according to medical sources.
