Palestinian Delegation Meets Culture Minister, Proposes Palestinian Genocide Museum in Indonesia
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – A Palestinian humanitarian delegation made an official visit to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia on Tuesday (5/5/2026) to discuss humanitarian support and propose the construction of a Palestinian Genocide Museum in Indonesia.
The delegation, led by Dr Taysir Hamdan Sulaiman, was received directly by Culture Minister Fadli Zon. Also present were KH Fahmi Salim (Director of the Baitul Maqdis Institute), Ilham Aznun (Director of AMAL Jabodetabek), and Neno Warisman (humanitarian activist).
During the meeting, Dr Taysir conveyed the current situation of the Palestinian people facing a humanitarian crisis and emphasised the importance of concrete support from the international community, including Indonesia, particularly in the social and educational sectors.
One of the main focuses discussed was the need to develop educational facilities for children with special needs in Palestinian territories, especially in Al-Quds. The delegation also proposed organising humanitarian seminars at various universities in Indonesia to increase public awareness of the Palestinian issue.
In addition, KH Fahmi Salim and Neno Warisman proposed the idea of building a Palestinian Genocide Museum in Indonesia. This initiative is hoped to serve as a public education tool and a reminder of the humanitarian tragedies experienced by the Palestinian people.
In response, Fadli Zon expressed appreciation for the delegation’s visit and reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to supporting the humanitarian struggle of the Palestinian people. He also stated the Ministry of Culture’s readiness to support the strengthening of educational facilities, including for children with special needs in Al-Quds, and to provide recommendations for organising seminars at higher education institutions.
Regarding the museum proposal, he welcomed the idea positively and assessed that the initiative has strategic value in building historical and humanitarian awareness within society.
On the same occasion, the Minister explained that the deployment of TNI personnel to Gaza by President Prabowo Subianto is focused on a humanitarian mission. The personnel sent are medical and engineering units that will be tasked with infrastructure rehabilitation and post-conflict recovery, not in a combat capacity.
The meeting proceeded warmly and concluded with an exchange of souvenirs. The Palestinian delegation presented symbolic sand from Al-Quds as a symbol of hope for independence, while the Ministry of Culture gave a book by Fadli Zon titled The History of Wayang.
This visit is expected to be an initial step in strengthening humanitarian cooperation and cultural diplomacy between Indonesia and Palestine, while also reinforcing Indonesia’s role in promoting global justice and peace.
