PAL starts Davao-HK flight
MANILA (AFP): Philippine Airlines (PAL) started yesterday twice-weekly flights from Davao to Hong Kong, a spokesman said here.
The initial flight saw a PAL Airbus A300 take off from Davao, the main trading city of the southern Philippines, make a stopover at the central island of Cebu and then proceed to Hong Kong, the PAL spokesman said.
The new Davao to Hong Kong flights will be in addition to the present thrice-daily flights from the Philippine capital of Manila to Hong Kong and the twice-weekly flights from Cebu to Hong Kong.
PAL chairman Carlos Dominguez was quoted in a statement as saying the new Davao-Hong Kong service was part of an effort to expand the southern city's trading links and promote President Fidel Ramos's plan to turn it into one of the pillars of the East ASEAN Growth Area.
