Pakistan's interior minister in Tehran delivers US message
Istanbul (ANTARA) - The exchange of messages between Iran and the United States via Pakistan’s mediation continues as efforts to reach a framework agreement progress, with several differences still to be resolved, according to the semi-official Iranian news agency ISNA on Thursday night (21 May).
According to ISNA, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who travelled to Tehran for the second time this week, conveyed a message from the United States to Iranian officials.
Naqvi met with several Iranian officials, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
Based on Iran’s 14-point proposal, as reported by Anadolu, Tehran seeks separate negotiations on the nuclear program, including uranium enrichment, within 30 days of a permanent ceasefire being achieved.
However, the United States wants the nuclear issue discussed and resolved before a permanent ceasefire agreement is reached.
The ceasefire has been in effect since 8 April through Pakistani mediation, but talks in Islamabad failed to reach a lasting agreement.
US President Donald Trump then extended the ceasefire indefinitely while continuing to block ships sailing to or from Iran’s ports through the strait.
