Pakistanis jailed in Medan

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Three Pakistanis have been sentenced to nine months imprisonment by the local district court for stealing a total of Rp 3.1 million from several people, the Antara news agency reported.

The three men were identified as Jehangir Khan, Ahmed Abid Khan and Khalid Munir Hamman, all in their 20s.

Their victims were shopkeepers.

According to the court record, the three men pretended to shop and would hand over a Rp 50,000 note in payment. As a shopkeeper turned his back to get the change, the Pakistanis would beat him up and flee with money from the till.

They carried out this operation in four separate cities, Medan, Pematang Siantar, Lubuk Pakam and Pancur Batu as they toured the region. (emb)
