Pakistan Welcomes US Decision to Suspend Project Freedom in Hormuz
Islamabad (ANTARA) - Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday (6/5) welcomed the United States’ decision to postpone Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the move as a positive development for easing regional tensions.
In a statement on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister noted that US President Donald Trump’s response to requests submitted by Pakistan and other countries, including Saudi Arabia, would greatly assist in promoting regional peace, stability, and reconciliation during this sensitive period.
He stated that Pakistan remains firmly committed to encouraging restraint and resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, while emphasising that peaceful engagement remains essential for long-term stability.
“We very much hope that the current momentum will lead to an agreement that guarantees sustainable peace and stability for the region and its surroundings,” he said.
Previously, on Tuesday (5/5), Trump announced that Project Freedom, a US military operation aimed at escorting ships out of the Strait of Hormuz, would be suspended to see if a peace agreement between Washington and Tehran could be reached.
