Padel Controversy in Jakarta and the One-Year Assessment of Pram-Doel
The presence of padel courts in several residential areas has sparked controversy. What is the response of the Jakarta DPRD to this issue?
The Jakarta Provincial Government said that as of February 2026, there are 185 padel courts without a Building Permit (PBG). Meanwhile, 212 padel facilities have a PBG.
This was revealed after residents in various areas in Jakarta protested, feeling that the padel arenas’ activities caused noise disturbances late into the night.
The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, moved quickly to regulate padel courts violating the rules in Jakarta. He ordered the demolition of padel courts that do not hold a government-issued Building Permit (PBG).
In addition to the padel issue, Jakarta also faces several other problems, including pothole-ridden roads, traffic congestion, and open green spaces.
CNN Indonesia presents the Deputy Speaker of the Jakarta DPRD, Wibi Andrino, to discuss the padel court dispute and other issues in Jakarta. The discussion can be watched via the What The Fact! Politics podcast hosted by Bram Herlambang. The podcast, titled ‘Padel Controversy in Jakarta and the One-Year Value of Pram-Doel’, can be watched via live streaming, apps and CNNIndonesia’s YouTube on Thursday (5 March) from 19:00 WIB.
